On October, 24, 2014 from 1:00PM to 7:00PM at Carter’s Barbershop in North Lawndale. Black Eutopia was part of Chicago Artists Month 2014, the 19th annual celebration of Chicago’s vibrant art community presented by the Chicago Department of Cultural Affairs and Special Events.
Black Eutopia 2014 was a single-day event which used a barbershop to highlight the work of performers, visual artists, and local barbers. Taylor curated a hybrid forum through the use of music and sound to the theme of black labor and art. The event exhibited visual art work by Krista Franklin, Leah Gipson, and Terrence Woodards. Several performances of poetry, dance and music occurred throughout the event, featuring artists Justice Long, Erica Cameron, Gira Dahnee, and Yaw Agyeman, as well as an archiving workshop lead by Skylah Sensaharae. The event will included a panel discussion with artists Samantha Hill, Andres Hernandez, RJ El, and local community members.
Black Eutopia programming is open to the public and invites donations of $5.00 to support further projects.
